James Rayford Morgan, age 95, formerly of 218 Ridgecrest Rd., Asheboro died Thursday, December 3, 2009 at Sandy Ridge Assisted Living, Candor.Mr. Morgan was born June 13, 1914 the son of Walter and Eumie Jenkins Morgan. Rayford was a native of Farrington, NC, graduated from a one room schoolhouse, and attended UNC-Chapel Hill. He was a pipefitter on Liberty ships during World War II in Georgia. After the war, he was a partner in the opening of Garner-Morgan Hardware. He and his wife Lorene later opened Asheboro Jewelry and in 1968 Southern Wholesale Company. He was a member of the C4 Church, was a former member of Central United Methodist Church and was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his first wife: Lorene Morgan. He is survived by his wife: Barbara Madison Morgan and one son: Steve M. Morgan of Asheboro, NC; 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.The family will receive friends Sunday, December 6, 2009 from 2:00 - 3:00 PM at Central Carolina Community Church, 1128 N. Fayetteville Street, Asheboro, NC. The funeral will follow at 3:00 PM at the church with Rev. Edward J. Arroyo officiating.
