Randy Ree Johnson, age 60, of 5735 US Hwy 64 West, Asheboro died Saturday, March 9, 2013 at his residence.
Mr. Johnson was born July 20, 1952 the son of the late Dwayne Reid and Grace Yates Johnson.
Randy was a native of Randolph County. He was a 1970 graduate of Farmer High School where he played on the state championship baseball team. An active sports and outdoor enthusiast, Randy loved to coach (he coached his son and granddaughter), he loved to hike (he had hiked approximately 1/3 of the Appalachian Trail with his brother and had hoped to finish the trail after retirement) and he loved to walk with his dog, Jack. He sang with the Deliverance Gospel group. Randy worked for Energizer for 39 years and also served in the National Guard for 2 years. He was preceded in death by his father Dwayne Johnson, who died on March 2, 2013.
He is survived by his wife: Brenda Orrison Johnson, son and his wife, Ben & Jennifer Johnson of Asheboro, NC; daughter & her husband, Crissy & Stephen Heath of Asheboro, NC; daughter & her husband, Cory & Patrick Sullins of Lake Wales, FL; mother, Grace Yates Johnson of Asheboro, NC; brother & his wife, Mike & Teresa Johnson of Asheboro, NC; sister & her husband, Amy & Brian Luck of Asheboro, NC; grandchildren, Haleigh and McKenzie Hopkins, Jace Heath, Grace Sullins, and Samuel Johnson.
The family will receive friends Monday, March 11, 2013 from 6:00-9:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. The funeral will be Tuesday at 4:00PM at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, Asheboro with Rev. Mike McClure and Dr. Ben Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Sawyersville Wesleyan Church Cemetery, Asheboro.
