The family of Ralph “Sparky” Groce is deeply saddened to announce his passing on December 10, 2024.Sparky was born on October 15, 1936, to Martha and Arthur Groce in Worthville, NC. After high school, he proudly served in the US Army before continuing his commitment to service as a deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department until his retirement in 1992.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Leigh Anne; stepdaughter, Brittney Nelson; stepson, Matthew Nelson (Brooke); his best buddy, Cohen; and their newest family member, Willow. He is also survived by his children, Sandra Allred (Michael), Jane Tuggle (Robert), Kenny Groce (Nancy), and Gail Hale (Richard); sisters, Linda Boyce and Margaret Stewart; and a host of grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and extended family—some by blood, others by love. Let’s not forget his faithful dog and shadow, Niki, always by his side, ready to steal popcorn.
