Ralph Olen Cox, age 81, of 608 Highland Street, Asheboro, died Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home, in Asheboro.
Mr. Cox was born in Randolph County on March 29, 1929. He was the son of the late Carl Emmett and Iza Pugh Cox. He was also preceded in death by his sister Gertha Cox Allen and his brothers Worth Clinton Cox and Marvin Edward Cox.
Mr. Cox was the superintendent of dyeing at Acme-McCrary Corporation before his retirement in 1994. He was a graduate of Asheboro High School (class of 1947) and McClungs Business College in Greensboro. He was a charter member of Pinewood Country Club and an avid golfer. He was past president of Toastmasters Club and a long time member of Jaycees. He was a member of Asheboro Friends Meeting and a former member of Bethel Friends Meeting.
Mr. Cox is survived by his wife of 60 years, Edna Perdue Cox, and their daughters, Vicki Cox Humphries of Greensboro and Amy Elizabeth Cox of Spartanburg, SC, their sons and daughters-in-law, Gregory Dale Cox and Nancy Thomas Cox, and Randall Allen Cox and Mary Beth Cox of Hickory, grandchildren, Andrew Humphries of Greensboro, Lauren Humphries Cox and husband Jordan Cox of Julian, Ashley Cox Kirby and husband Barry Kirby of Charlotte, Blake Cox of Charlotte and Brett Cox of Asheboro, and great-grandchild Branner Kirby of Charlotte.
The family will receive friends at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at Asheboro Friends Meeting with Rev. Ken Thames, Rev. Pat Thames and Rev. Leslie N. Winslow officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Friends Meeting Cemetery.
