Rachel Blake Vuncannon

Rachael Blake Vuncannon, age 94, of Love Joy Rd., Troy died Monday, December 21, 2015 at Sandy Ridge Assisted Living, Candor. Mrs. Vuncannon was born October 22, 1921 at Troy, NC the daughter of James Frank and Lola Merritt Blake. Mrs. Vuncannon was a faithful member of Love Joy United Methodist Church. She began working in 1953 for the Montgomery County Schools in the food service department at Troy Elementary School, transferring to West Montgomery High School in 1961 where she worked until retirement. She then worked in the quality control department at Troy Drapery Corporation until she retired. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Charlie Weitzel Vuncannon and son James "Jimmy" Hayle Vuncannon. She is survived by one daughter: Brenda V Byrd and husband Douglas of Troy; sister: Frances Pigford of Troy; Grandchildren: Mark Byrd of Troy, Michael Byrd and wife Pebble of Troy, Amy Vuncannon of Star, Jimmy Vuncannon and wife Amy of Star, Danny Vuncannon and wife Andrea of Star; Great-grandchildren, Grayson and Jackson Byrd of Troy, Emily, Timothy, Rachel and Jacob Vuncannon of Star; daughter-in-law: Dianne Maness Vuncannon of Star. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 4-6 pm at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 N Main St., Troy; other times at her residence. The funeral will be Thursday, December 24, 2015 at 11:00 am at Love Joy United Methodist Church, 1137 Substation Rd, Troy with Rev. Ron Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
