Phyllis Ann Holland, 75, of Asheboro, died Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Central United Methodist Church at 11 am, Saturday, February 14 with Reverend Terry Matthews officiating.
She was born in Iredell County on April 30, 1939. She was the daughter of the late Ethel and J.W. Holland of Union Grove, North Carolina. She was a graduate of Catawba College and retired from the Asheboro City School system where she taught for more than 30 years, and coached girls basketball. In retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at Christians United Outreach Center, Randolph Arts Guild, Extension and Community Association and at her church, Central United Methodist. She was an avid fan of her UNC tar heels basketball and football. Her wonderful sense of humor, quick wit, and compassion for others will be greatly missed by her many friends who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Ruth Burgess and husband Bill; and Elaine Baggarley and husband Gary. She is survived by her brothers; Dwight M. Holland of the home, Robert and Evelyn Holland of Cary, NC, Jimmy and Mary Francis Holland of Statesville, NC, and Bill and Lib Holland of Greer, SC. She is also survived by ten nieces and nephews and fourteen great nieces and nephews.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Mercedes and Felipe Vasquez, her caregivers and special friends for the love and compassion they had and shared with Phyllis during her illness.
