Philip McRae, age 88, of Mt. Gilead died Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Bethany Woods Nursing & Rehab Center, Albemarle.
Philip was born January 4, 1925 at Montgomery County, NC, the son of James Jackson and Maggie Frances Smith McRae.
Philip was a member of Wadeville Baptist Church where he served on the deacon board for several years. He was a retired supervisor with twenty-plus years of service from McRae Industries, Footwear Division.
Philip served in the US Army during World War II. His tour of duty included campaigns at the Battle of the Bulge, France, Germany and Belgium.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Terry McRae, a grandson, Kenneth McRae and his siblings: Nettie McRae, Michael McRae, Branson McRae, and Harry McRae.
He is survived by his wife of seventy-years: Frances Lassiter McRae of Albemarle; four sons: P J McRae of Mt Gilead, Michael McRae and wife, Martha of Albemarle, Harry McRae and wife, Debbie of Troy, Mark McRae and wife, Jennifer of Albemarle; two brothers: J.C. McRae and Finley McRae, both of Mt. Gilead; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Sunday, June 30, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Wadeville Baptist Church, 144 Shoe Factory Road, Mt. Gilead with Rev. Jim Hunsucker officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
