Pauline Kirkman Hilliard, 97, formerly of 1302 Old Cox Rd., Asheboro, died Thursday, March 25, 2010 at Randolph Hospital.
A graveside service will take place at Randolph Memorial Park on Saturday, March 27 at 11:00 AM, with Dr. Mark Key and the Reverend David Schwartz officiating. Arrangements are by Pugh Funeral Home of Asheboro.
The daughter of Charles L. Kirkman and Alice Trogdon Kirkman, she was born on February 15, 1913, in Randolph County, NC, and was a lifelong resident of Randleman and Asheboro. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Asheboro. Pauline loved working in her yard and growing flowers. She moved to Cross Road Assisted Living in December of 1996.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Jackson Hilliard, Sr., two brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by her son, Kenneth Jackson (Jack) Hilliard, Jr., and his wife, Marla Stevens-Hilliard of Greensboro; several nieces and nephews, including her very special and devoted niece Alice Ruth (Tooney) Russell and her husband, Arthur (Doc). She is also survived by a special young man, Tony Hendrix, whom she cared for as a child, and his wife, Kathy.
The family would also like to acknowledge and thank Pauline's lifelong friend Jessie Cox for her companionship and assistance through the years; as well as Central United Methodist Church and Peggy Woodruff for her faithful visits and the Church family's kindness and attention. Thanks also to those at Cross Road who were particularly kind and attentive during her time there-Franklin, John, and David, in particular, and to others along the way. Special thanks to Hospice of Randolph County, which provided compassionate and loving care in her final days.
