Mr. Paul William Cox, 80, formerly of Asheboro, NC died Friday October 24, 2008 at The Oaks of Forsyth, Winston-Salem, NC.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, October 27, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Grays Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Doug Miller officiating.
Mr. Cox was a native of Randolph County. He was born September 20, 1928 to Ivan and Dora Craven Cox. He attended and graduated from Providence School. He enlisted into the Army in 1948 and was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. After discharge from the Army, he married Opal Coble Cox on June 27, 1951. He worked in textiles and at Union Carbide Corporation in Asheboro before entering his 30 year career with the Defense Supply Agency of the Defense Department. He was based out of Atlanta, GA and held the title of Packaging Specialist.
Mr. Cox loved his family and had a passion for the outdoors. He loved to golf, fish, and hunt and was a devoted Atlanta Braves fan. Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his wife Opal Coble Cox and son, Anthony Worth Cox. He is survived by Daughter, Paula Sharon Cox Navy and husband Randy James Navy of Winston-Salem, NC. His grandchildren that he adored Christopher Michael Navy and wife Sydney Roberts Navy of Winston-Salem, NC and Cameron Jason Navy of Durham, NC. A sister, Hilda Cox Burton and husband Steve Burton of Gainesville, VA.
Mr. Cox also leaves behind a group of friends he worked with for 30 years from many states. He also leaves sister and brother in-laws, nieces, nephews that were special to him. All of these people held a special place in his heart. Two people could not be left out as being special in this past year, a thank you to Lois and Joya. The family would like to thank the staff of The Oaks at Forsyth for their excellent care and compassion for Paul during his time as a resident. We would also like to thank Mallard Ridge Assisted Living and Hospice of Forsyth County that participated in his care over the last few years.
The family will receive friends, Sunday October 26, 2008 from 6pm - 8pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave, Asheboro, NC.
