Pat Murphy Bailey, Jr., age 84, of Asheboro died Monday, February 21, 2011 at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 24, 2011 at 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Haynes, Rev. Mike Holder and Rev. Susan Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Mr. Bailey was a native of Summerfield and an Army veteran of WWII. He was a utilities construction engineer for 20 years with the City of Asheboro, worked with Wham and Hunt Construction and retired from Baker Construction in Kernersville. Mr. Bailey was a volunteer fireman with Asheboro City for 30 years and grew boxwoods as a hobby. He was a humble, positive, concerned and caring person with a gentle spirit. He had a sense of humor and enjoyed gardening and helping his friends and neighbors. Mr. Bailey's life exemplified his Christ like characteristics and he was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Pat and Mary Barham Bailey, step-mother, Ozelle Bailey, son, Dean Patrick Bailey and sisters, Leola Mitchell, Doris Adkins, Beatrice Wrenn and Lillian Bostian.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Nance Bailey; daughters, Sarah Surratt and husband Gordon, Karen Cooper and husband Jeff, Amy Robbins and husband Kenneth all of Asheboro; grandchildren, Ashley Surratt, Tyler Robbins, Lauryn Robbins all of Asheboro; brother, Max Bailey of Stokesdale, brothers-in-law, Norman Nance and Phil Nance and his wife Rachael all of Asheboro and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 23, 2011 from 6 to 8 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC.
