Otto James Smith, age 87, of 725 Woodcrest Dr., Asheboro died Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Neil Crowell and Rev. George W. Roberson officiating, with masonic rites, and with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Interment will be private.
Mr. Smith was born in Scotland County, NC on April 10, 1924 to Marvin and Bessie Kish Smith, who preceded him in death. Otto served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was retired from CP&L after 38 years of service. He was a very active member of New Union United Methodist Church. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #699 AF & AM and was former Master of the lodge. Otto was well known for giving away gold dollars.
He is survived by his wife, Harriet Ingram Smith of the home; daughter, Barbara Roberts of Asheboro, NC; son, James Bishop Smith of Asheboro, NC; granddaughter, Angela Nordstrom of Asheboro, NC; and great grandson, Simon Carico of Asheboro, NC.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 9, 2012 from 7:00-9:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC and other times at his residence.
