Opal Yow

Opal Kirkman Yow, age 88, of 925 East Naomi Street, Randleman passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro. The family will receive family and friends Friday, June 24, 2011 from 1:00-2:30 p.m at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 South Main Street, Randleman, NC. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm following the visitation at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Tim Pheagin officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park, 4538 US Hwy 220 Bus. North, Asheboro. Mrs. Yow was born December 6, 1922 in Randleman. She was a graduate of Randleman in 1939. Opal retired from Commonwealth Hosiery Mills in 1998 after 54 years of service to take care of her husband during his illness. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will always be remembered for her wonderful baking and cooling. Opal enjoyed cake decorating, sewing, gardening and being outside working in her flowers. She enjoyed spending weekends at the lake with her family and friends. Opal was of Methodist faith. She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, William A Yow, parents, Millard and Verla Kirkman, brothers, Tommy and Clay Kirkman, sister, Alice Faye Kirkman. She is survived by daughter: Linda Y. Cushman and her companion Michael Jenkins of Sophia, granddaughters, Theresa Miller and her husband, Tony of Randleman, Kim Swaim and her husband Kevin of Randleman; great grandson, Chance Swaim of Randleman; sister: Dolly Vuncannon of Randleman, brother: Bruce Kirkman and his wife Irene of Asheboro; and several nephews. A special "Thank You" to Dr. Pamela Penner and all of her staff for the kind, special care and guidance during the last few years of Opal's illness. Another "Thank You" to Hospice of Randolph County for all the care, support and prayers we received for the many months we spent together.
