Opal Scott Thomas, age 95, of 1306 Old Cox Rd., Asheboro died Sunday, March 21, 2010 at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
Mrs. Thomas was born January 5, 1915 in Randolph County, the daughter of the Arthur Arteemass and Martha Lourinda (Owen) Scott.
Mrs. Thomas was retired from Southern Wholesale and was a member of First Baptist Church in Asheboro. Mrs. Thomas attended Appalacian State University, where she competed on the Appalachian Swim team. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Thomas and her daughter, Martha Voncannon.
She is survived by her Daughter & Son in law: Pat and Gene Coble of Asheboro, NC; Son & Daughter in law: Dr. E. Scott and Barbara Russell Thomas of Raleigh, NC; Son: Mike Thomas of Asheboro, NC; Grandchildren: Benjie Voncannon, Eddie Voncannon, Lori Stutts, Elizabeth Tripp, Susan Worley, E. Scott Thomas, Jr., Chad Thomas, and Mickey Shaw, 16 Great Grandchildren, and 4 Great Great Grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Pugh Funeral Home from Noon until 1:30 PM Tuesday, March 23, 2010. The funeral will follow at 2:00 P.M. at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro with Rev. Brian Worley officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park.
