Otis Elbert Nelson, Jr., age 74, of Asheboro died Thursday, December 20, 2012 at High Point Regional Hospital.
The family will receive friends Saturday, December 22, 2012 from 4:00-7:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. A private graveside service will be held.
Mr. Nelson was a native of Richmond County and a US Navy veteran serving on the aircraft carrier USS Shangri-La. He was employed as Vice-President of Sales for Hancock Country Hams, Inc. of Franklinville, NC for 15 years, was a representative of Kansas City Life Insurance Company for 35 years and an independent agent for over 50 years. He was a member of Giles Chapel United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, Otis Elbert, Sr. and Maxine Allen Nelson, Elbert was preceded in death by his wife Ann Bonkemeyer Nelson.
He is survived by daughters, Melinda Nelson Leonard of Asheboro, Marsha Karen Nelson of Asheboro; son, Jeffrey Lynn Nelson and his wife Angela of Asheboro; grandchildren, Nicholas Lynn Nelson, Trenton Nelson Leonard, Kailey Blake Lambeth; sisters, Martha Nelson Graves and her husband Jesse of Seagrove, and Barbara Ann Nelson of California.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the High Point Cancer Center at High Regional Hospital for all their love and concern during his illness.
