Newman Lewis Way, age 87, of Greensboro died Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Beacon Place Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro.
Mr. Way was born January 9, 1927 in Asheboro to Samuel and Cornelia Way. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII where he served as Signalman aboard the gasoline tanker, USS Namakagon in the Asiatic-Pacific. Mr. Way was a member of Sears Southern Territory Management staff, a Real Estate Broker and a Sales Manager with Coldwell Banker. He attended First United Methodist Church when he lived in Asheboro and was a member of West Market Street United Methodist Church in Greensboro. Mr. Way enjoyed working and was a volunteer with the court system, mobile meals and Urban Ministries. He loved growing flowers and playing tennis and was the State Senior Tennis Champion twice.
He is survived by his wife, Earlene Sexton Way; daughter, Candy W. Reavis and husband Steve of Elon; sons, Steve Way and wife Sharon of Asheboro, Sam Way and wife Peggy of Greensboro; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Way Collins and husband Carlton of Greensboro.
The family will receive friends at Mr. Way's home in Greensboro. A graveside service with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard will be held Friday, May 2, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Oaklawn Cemetery, 737 Albemarle Road, Asheboro with Rev. Bill Ellison officiating.
