Nancy Thomas Hampton, age 85, of Franklinville, NC died on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at her home.
A native of Raleigh, Nancy grew up in Cameron, NC. She was the daughter of Raymond and Lora Norman Thomas. She was a graduate of Women’s College (now UNC-Greensboro) and was a retired teacher and school librarian.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James Sherman Hampton. They were married 62 years before his death in 2013. Nancy has lived in the last 20 years confined to a wheelchair and continued to meet most days with a smile. She was a member of Grays Chapel United Methodist Church.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Alexander Thomas and a sister, Rachel Thomas Benfey.
She is survived by her son, Gerald T. Hampton and wife Beth of Franklinville, NC. She is also survived by 2 granddaughters, Lora Vann and her husband Joshua of Hawaii, Rebecca Lunn and her husband of Dillon of Raleigh, and a great grandson, Issac Vann of Hawaii.
Nancy is also survived by a brother, John Wesley Thomas of Valdosta, GA and a sister, Velma Tomlin of Greensboro, NC.
Services will be at 3:00 pm on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 3:00 pm at Grays Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Nathan Snider officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00-3:00 pm prior to the service.
Burial will be at the Hampton Memorial Cemetery in Murphy, NC on Monday, November 16, 2015 at 11:00 am.
