Moses Lee Luther

9-29-1931-3-9-2018

Moses Lee Luther, age 86, of Asheboro passed away on Friday, March 9, 2018 at Randolph Hospice House.

Moses Lee Luther was born on September 29, 1931 in Eleazer, NC.  He always told people that he attended the Eleazer Church 9 months before he was born, and he remained a faithful and active member until his death on March 9, 2018.

As a young man, Moses served his country as an MP in the Army.  During that time, he served in the Marshall Islands, and he was recognized for his part in guarding the transfer of the atomic bomb during testing there in 1954.

Moses worked in construction as a General Contractor building numerous commercial structures throughout the southeast. In retirement he volunteered his time and talents by working with the Baptist Men Ministries and other organizations. He helped with disaster recovery work after Hurricane Katrina.  Locally, Moses assisted in the building of numerous ramps for those in need.  Moses also served as a member of the Logos Christian Theater cast.  He also volunteered at the annual Southeast Thresher's Reunion in Denton where friends would find him keeping watch at the Radio Museum.

Moses had many interests and many friends.  He loved to restore “piddle with” antique cars and tractors.  He enjoyed attending car shows with friends. Bluegrass music played another big part in Moses' life, and he often talked about his association with Bill Monroe and his visit to Bill Monroe's home place.  He always enjoyed sharing coffee and laughter with friends at Willett's Curb Market.  He gave so much of himself-his knowledge, his wisdom, his love of God, family, and friends.  He truly made a difference in the lives of all who knew him.

Moses is survived by his wife, Linda Smith Luther; sons, JR Luther and wife Sandy of Greensboro, Jon Luther and wife Trudy of Asheboro, and David Smith and wife Mary of Biscoe; daughters, Elaine Smith of Asheboro and Lynn Callicutt of Asheboro; grandchildren, David Luther, Jacob Luther, Daniel Smith, Robin Morris, and Jason Morris; and great grandchildren, Logan Morris, Eli Smith, Arlis Smith, Madison Smith, Averey Smith, Bristol Morris, and Harper Morris.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 11, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Eleazer Victory Church with Rev. Jimmy Wansley, Rev. Darrell Smith, and Rev. Ed Carter.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Randolph, P.O. Box 9, Asheboro, NC  27204-0009 or Eleazer Victory Church, c/o Imogene Hardister, 4995 Burney Mill Rd., Troy, NC  27371.
