Montae Keith Hayes age 87, of Asheboro died Friday, August 5, 2016 at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro.
Born February 17, 1929, Mr. Hayes was the son of Walter I. Hayes and Elizabeth Davis Hayes.
An Asheboro native, he was formerly employed with Union Carbide and retired from Black & Decker, (formerly General Electric). He was a US Marine Corps veteran and a very artistic man. He loved working with his hands, making pottery, porcelain dolls and painting pictures. Being a pilot and making drums, flutes and dreams catchers was also among of his many talents. He and his wife were able to visit all 50 states and all 100 counties in NC. They also enjoyed music and square dancing together. He was very proud of his Indian Heritage and would share that knowledge with school groups. Keith was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by his parents and his brother John Hayes.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years: Dixie Cannon Hayes; daughter: Wanda Hayes (Michael) Brady of Asheboro; sons: Montae J. Hayes of Badin Lake, David I. (Lisa) Hayes of Staley and Jerry K. (Kena) Hayes of Asheboro; grandchildren: Kirk (Laura) Bray, Anna (Brandin) Davis, Brian (Wendy) Ingold, Kinlin (Nick) Charcut, Savannah Hayes, Kory Edmundson and Kameron Edmundson; great grandsons: Steven Bray, Brayden Davis, Brady Charcut and Beason Charcut; two sisters: Peggy Coble of Franklinville and Bettie Morgan of Asheboro; brother: Hilton Hayes of Asheboro.
The family will receive friends Monday, August 8, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC.
The funeral service will be Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro with Ed Morgan officiating, with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
Burial will be held at 2:00 PM at Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro.
