Monroe Herring 90 was released from his tired and weary body on April 24, 2013. He took his flight like a mighty eagle to the mansion Jesus has prepared for him as promised in His word.
He was preceded in that flight by his parents, Jim and Maggie Thomas Herring, his son and daughter-in-law James Roy and Jean Herring, his brother James Paul Herring; sister Lois Herring Jones; and granddaughter Sonya Herring.
Monroe is survived by his wife of 47 years Mary Frances Howell Herring, their daughter Jill Sullender and husband Joe of Vienna, VA, his grandchildren Ashley Howell Sullender, Julia Copeland Sullender, and Colin Monroe Sullender; daughters, Kaye Mason and husband Roy of Goldsboro; Janet Langston and husband Craig of Goldsboro; granddaughter, Wanda Quinn; step grandson, Jaye Drumm of Goldsboro; step daughter Debra Cobb and husband Monty of Raleigh and their children Marilyn Slaymaker and Carson Cobb; numerous great grandchildren; and brother Eugene Herring and wife Frances of Charlotte.
The family wishes to acknowledge Monroe's special friends Tony Hoover and J.R. Clark, who were very dear to him.
Monroe was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He owned and operated Monroe's Music & Jewelry for 50 years serving Asheboro and surrounding counties. He was dedicated to his customers and considered every one of them a friend. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Asheboro.
He was a long standing member of First Assembly of God Church, more recently calling Word of Faith Ministries home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Monty Barker officiating and with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard. A committal service will be at Princeton Cemetery in Princeton, NC at 4:00 pm.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 26, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Randolph Hospice House, 446 Vision Dr., Asheboro, NC 27203 or the Word of Faith Ministries Building Fund, c/o Rev. Monty Baker, 3269 Spoons Chapel Rd., Asheboro, NC 27205 or the charity of the donor's choice.
