Monroe Combs

James Monroe Combs, Sr., age 85, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Randolph Hospice House. Monroe was born October 25, 1925 to Edgar and Martha Combs in Stokes County. During his adolescent years they made the move to Seagrove, NC. He graduated from Seagrove High School in 1944. He was a U. S. Army veteran. Monroe worked for Burlington Industries from which he retired in 1982 after 34 years of service. During his retirement he also worked part-time for Mid State Plastics. Monroe served as a Seagrove Town Commissioner and was a charter member of the Seagrove Lions Club. He was a member of Seagrove Christian Church where he served as a Deacon and enjoyed singing in the church choir. Monroe married Irene Rush on June 26, 1953. She preceded him in death in 2007 but not before they celebrated 50 years of marriage. Survivors are son, James M. Combs, Jr. of the home; daughter, Emily Combs Kirkland and her husband Tommy of Mooresville, NC; brother, Rex B. Combs of Seagrove; three grandchildren, Taylor, Ryan, and Martha Kirkland. The family takes comfort in knowing that Monroe and Irene are walking hand in hand in heaven today. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 pm at Seagrove Christian Church with Dr. J. B. Gibson and Rev. L. D. Pritchard officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Randolph, P.O.
