Mildred Underwood Melts

Mildred Catherine Underwood Melts, 91, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Randolph Hospice House. A funeral service will be held Friday, February 15, 2013 at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, Asheboro, NC with Rev. Johnny Henderson and Rev. Gregg Arnold officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 to 3:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, NC. Burial will be at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla. Born July 20, 1921, Mildred was the third daughter of Cicero H. and Lula Coble Underwood of Central Falls, NC. She and her husband, Jimmy Lawrence Melts retired to Newport Richey, Fla. where she attended the Baptist Church there. When her husband, Jimmy passed away in January 2006, she came to Asheboro, NC to be cared for by her sister Louise Underwood Redding and three wonderful caregivers: Mrs. Sherrie Dunn, Mrs. Fannie Moore and Mrs. Vickie Jones, whom she loved very much. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Gladys U. Cox and Evelyn U. Jackson, her niece Betty Jackson Blair and nephew Grantland Harris Nelson. She is survived by her sister, Louise Redding, and nephews Cecil Cox of Havelock, NC, Darrell Cox of Asheboro and nieces Annice McDowell, Nancy Reeder, Mary Ellen Manning and Judy Laughlin of Asheboro, NC. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Martha Melts of Durham, NC and her husband Jimmy's, 9 nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Randolph, P.O.
