Mildred Roosevelt Boswell Hughes, 102, died on Saturday November 29, 2014, at Westfield Rehab and Health Center in Sanford.
Mrs. Hughes was born in Lexington, NC, on May 30, 1912, to James Thomas and Susan Swing Boswell. She attended High Point College before
marrying Robert Waitt Hughes on June 12, 1932, in High Point. After they moved to Greensboro, she became a homemaker and an active volunteer in her church and community there and later in Asheboro where the family moved in 1947.
She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include a daughter, Susan Waitt Hughes Pleasant of Hickory, NC; a son Robert Knox Hughes and wife Barbara Jarvis Hughes of Sanford, NC; grandsons Robert Knox Hughes, Jr. and wife Pamela of Greensboro, NC; Jonathan Waitt Hughes and wife, Rebecca of Raleigh, NC; William Ronald Pleasant, Jr. and wife, Shannon of Hickory; and Thomas Waitt Pleasant and wife, Dawn of Wilmington, NC. She leaves 11 great grandchildren: Robert Knox Hughes III, and Nicolas Holden Hughes of Greensboro; Zachary Uzzell Hughes and Joshua Waitt Hughes of Raleigh; Benjamin Hughes Pleasant and Alexander Hefner Pleasant of Hickory; Matthew Waitt Pleasant, Ashley Elizabeth Pleasant, Samuel Dmitry Pleasant, Seth Matiyor Pleasant; and Abigail Elfinish Pleasant of Wilmington.
A visitation will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Asheboro on Wednesday, December 3rd at 1:00 PM with a memorial service following at 2:00 PM. Her private burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery in Asheboro, NC.
