Michael Junior Hurley, age sixty-three of Asheboro passed away Monday, August 21st at his home surrounded by family and a multitude of friends. Mr. Hurley was born in the Griffin clinic in Asheboro on August 17th, 1954 to Doris Perdue Hurley and Junior Shelly Hurley. He attended Randolph County Schools. Michael loved the beach and being on the lake with his boat and jet skis.
Michael owned and operated Hurley's Cycle on Highway 64, which had its early beginnings in the late seventies. Michael's passion for life was fueled by his love, compassion and heart in serving others. Some of the comments made from the family, friends, and the community reveal his tremendous contribution to all those he loved. For example, "what are we going to do without Michael? He was such a good friend and he was always there! He was such a good neighbor". If you needed a tool, vehicle, trailer, cash – call Michael or better yet just "come on by and pick it up". Michael served the Lord by helping others.
A more free-hearted, generous soul has never imprinted the hearts of people of Randolph County the way Michael did. One young man tells the story of the time when he was sixteen years old how Michael mentored him, treated him like family, taught him his craft, and other life lessons that he stills uses daily. That is just one example of the joy that Michael spread. His cycle business was not just a wage-earner, but a way to enrich the community and customers, far and wide, by sharing his expertise and love for the cycle business. Michael loved his work!
Michael took on a father figure to his nieces, nephews and cousins and considered himself blessed to have them around him. The special bond that he held with each one brought "undeniable sunshine" into their lives. One cousin describes Michael as his big brother and to his aunts, and uncles, he was a son.
When you remember Michael, in your fondest memories, remember his infectious smile, contagious laughter, and his "signature whistle".
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Junior and Doris Hurley. He is survived by sisters, Vicky Hurley Harris and husband Scott of Randleman, Lori Hurley English and husband Charles of Asheboro, and Dana Hurley of Asheboro; brother Tony Hurley and wife Patty of Randleman; nieces and nephews Chasity Brady, Kathryn Hurley, Landen English, Morgen Faith English, Talan Watson, and Ayla Watson; great niece, Lauren Brady; and great nephew, Sheldon Brady.
