Michael "Mike" Dwight Haywood, age 64, of Chip Rd, Mt Gilead died Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.
Mike was born January 20, 1950 at Troy, NC, the son of G.A. Jr. and Helen Liles Haywood.
Mike was an active member of First Baptist Church of Troy having served as a deacon, assistant Sunday School superintendent, Sunday School teacher and various other areas of service. He was also an active member Gideon's International.
He was a graduate of NC State University. Mike was very involved in the athletic programs at West Montgomery High School where he was the videographer for the past 26 years. He was an independent businessman of farming, logging, and former co-owner of Haywood's Exxon. He was also a bulk mail carrier and a sawyer at Megawood Timber Division.
Mike will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather who had a great sense of humor. His family, church, and athletics were very important to him. He is preceded in death by his father, G.A. Haywood, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of forty-three years: Jo Poole Haywood of the home; one daughter: Dawn Weeks and husband, Lee of Gainesville, GA; one son: Darrin Haywood and wife, Lyndsey of Mount Airy; six grandchildren: Anna Weeks, Lydia Weeks, Caleb Weeks, Avery Weeks, Jacob Haywood, and Troy Haywood; mother: Helen Liles Haywood of Mt Gilead; two brothers: Dudley Haywood and Jeff Haywood, both of Mt. Gilead; one sister, Shelby Rush of Mt. Gilead.
The family will receive friends Friday, April 4, 2014 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Troy; other times at the home of his mother, Helen. The funeral will be Saturday at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Troy, 401 E. Main Street, Troy with Dr. Phillips McRae officiating. Burial will be in Haywood Family Cemetery, Chip Rd., Mt. Gilead.
