Melvin Lonnie Hunt, age 76, of Ben Lambeth Rd., Asheboro died Monday, April 28, 2008 at Randolph Hospital following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at 3:00 PM at New Union United Methodist Church, 1293 Union Church Road, Asheboro with Rev. Karen Gobel and Rev. Jean Nall officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
Mr. Hunt was born on November 1, 1931 in Asheboro, NC, the son of the late Lonnie and Caroline McDowell Hunt. He attended Asheboro City Schools and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War, 1952-54. He was self employed in masonry and construction and taught the first Bricklaying Class at Farmer High School,1966-67. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and gardening, and sharing his vegetables from the garden with others to enjoy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Pauline H. Wilson and brothers, Wade, Baxter, and Clarence Hunt.
He is survived by his wife of 50 Years, Betty Hussey Hunt; sisters, Gladys H. Davis, Hazel H. Harvell and Ola H. Spencer and her husband Bobby all of Asheboro, NC plus several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC and other times at the home of his sister, Hazel Harvell, 3430 Old NC Hwy 49, Asheboro.
