May Holyoak Sturgess, 87, passed peacefully into eternal rest at Hospice House of Randolph County on March 11, 2017. It was a beautiful day; a full moon rose shortly after she passed followed by a light snow the next morning, as befits the passing of a beautiful woman. Born in England, she moved to the United States in 1960. Beloved by all, she had the ability to speak directly to the inner person that you consider the real you. She saw all people as equal and treated them all the same; honestly, with kindness, love and respect. Mother of six, she played that role to many people in her life that came to her for comfort and solace in times of need. She left a trail of love behind her and will be missed by all.
A lover of nature and all its beauty, she enjoyed the garden and its feathered friends (the squirrels with whom she carried on a running battle over the contents of the bird feeders might question her love of nature).
The family would like to thank all of the caregivers that provided help, support and comfort to her and the family over the recent years as her health began to fail. Her remarkable inner strength kept her heart full of love until the end.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband John, she is survived by her sister Doreen Deacon and husband Graham, six children, Andrew Sturgess, Gary Sturgess, Janice and husband Billy Tarlton, Fiona and husband Darrell Carter, Juanita and husband Gerhard Biensack, and Kevin Sturgess and Merissa Langford. Eight grandchildren, their children and a large extended family shared the love of this special person.
A memorial service will be held this Sunday March 19th at All Souls Anglican Church, 2898 Old Cox Rd, Asheboro NC. The memorial service will begin at 12pm following the regular mass held from 10:30 to 11:30 am.
Services will be led by Fr Arthur Walker.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to her church, All Souls Anglican Church or The Nature Conservancy.
