Max Tyson Vanhoy, age 84, of 3957 River Road, Troy died Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at his home.
Mr. Vanhoy was born March 24, 1928 at Montgomery County, NC the son of Arley Odell and Lelia Lisk Vanhoy. He was a member of Troy Presbyterian Church. Max grew up in the grocery business. In 1957 he and his dad built a new store, Vanhoy's General Store at Uwharrie, which sold a variety of foods, feed and hardware items. He owned and operated the store until his retirement December 31, 1989. He was a member of the West Montgomery Lions Club and the Uwharrie Fire Department. He is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years: Mary Smith Vanhoy of the home.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 11, 2012 from 6 pm until 8 pm at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Street, Troy; other times at the home. The funeral will be Thursday at 2:00 pm at Troy Presbyterian Church, 202 E. Main Street, Troy with Rev. Dr. David Speering officiating. Burial will be in Bensalem Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Eagle Springs.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the church of one's choice.
