Maurice Edward "Frenchie" Pion, age 89, of 2378 Okeeweemee-Star Road, Troy died Thursday, May 3, 2012 at his home. Mr. Pion, a native of St. Albans, Vermont was born February 20, 1923. He was the son of Florimond and Rosilda Blain Pion. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II and served in the Arkansas National Guard. In 1961 Frenchie moved to Troy to work for Taylor Mobile Homes. He later worked for Cranford & Brown Heating & Air Conditioning. He was a member of Forks of Little River Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as groundskeeper for forty-nine plus years. He was a Webelos Boy Scout troop leader and drove a Montgomery County school bus. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Hermina Bodemuller Pion, his sisters, Rita Pion, Simone, Teddy and Florienne "Flossie", brothers, Romeo Pion and Rayo Pion. He is survived by his wife: Winnifred Stancil Pion of the home, formerly of Mint Hill, NC; three stepchildren: Robert "Bobby" Geren and wife, Kathy of Harvest, Alabama, Roberta Geren of Troy, NC and Charles A. Geren of Troy, NC; one sister: Pauline "Polly" Caron and husband, Greg of Norwalk, CT; two brothers: Bert Pion of St. Albans, VT, Roland Pion and wife, Leeta of St. Albans, VT; grandchildren: Martin "Marty" Hamilton of Asheville, NC, Daniel "Danny" Hamilton and wife, Jane of Durham, NC, Jennifer Hamilton Deadmon and husband, Tim of Trinity, NC, Robby Geren and Andrew Geren, both of Harvest, AL. A Celebration of Life service will be Sunday, May 6, 2012 at 3:00 pm at Forks Of Little River Baptist Church, 2356 Okeeweemee-Star Road, Troy with Rev. Bill Roy and Rev. Wayne VunCannon officiating. Inurnment with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard, will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.
