Maurice Leonard Gunter

Maurice Leonard Gunter, age 88, of Asheboro died Friday, July 22, 2016 at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro. Mr. Gunter was born February 7, 1928, the son of Otis F. Gunter and Ida Mae Foster Gunter. Mr. Gunter was a native of Randolph County and was a veteran of the US Air Force. He was retired from Eveready Battery and loved the Lord and his family. In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by his wife: Gladys Gunter; son: Michael Walker and granddaughter: Richele Deans. He is survived by his wife: Iris Miller Gunter, son: John Gunter and his son: Evan Gunter both of Asheboro; daughters: Sonja (Clyde) Still of Greensboro, Lynda Moran of Raleigh, Paula (Terry) York of Asheboro and Sharon (Anthony) Greene of Asheboro; son: Jonathan (Anita) Walker of Franklinville; 20 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; sister: Rosalie Strider of Rockingham; special niece: Suzanne Benoy of Smithfield and many extended family and friends. The family will receive friends Monday, July 25, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC and other times at his home. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at 3:00 PM in the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, Asheboro with John Gunter and Rev. Randy Kelly officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
