Mattie Belle Ward

Mattie Belle Ward, age 91, of 210 Rinaldi St., Elizabethtown died Saturday, January 31, 2009 at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill. A graveside memorial service will be held Friday, February 6, 2009 at 1:00 pm at Oaklawn Cemetery with Rev. D. L. Page officiating. Also, a memorial service will be held at Elizabethtown Baptist Church at a later date. Miss Ward, a native of Bulloch County, GA, spent her early years in Georgia and then moved to North Carolina. She was an active member of Elizabethtown Baptist Church and owner of Elizabethtown Florist with her brother, Herbert Ward. Mattie had a great love for her church, children and animals. She is survived by her sister, Georgia Routh Menius of Asheboro; sister-in-law, Myrtle Ward of Elizabethtown; nephews, Herbert Ward, Jr. and his wife Sara of Elizabethtown, John David Ward of Elizabethtown, George Richard Ward, II of Greensboro; niece, Linda Tinkler of Asheboro; great niece, Ruth Anne Ward of Elizabethtown; great nephew, George Walker Ward of Elizabethtown. Memorials may be made to Elizabethtown Baptist Church, 1800 W. Broad St., Elizabethtown, NC 28337.
