Mattie Mae Harris Coltrane
October 18, 1922-September 15, 2015
Mattie began her eternal life with Jesus on Tuesday, September 15, 2015. She was preceded in Heaven by her beloved husband, Richard, whom she had missed greatly for the past 29 years. Mattie is survived by her daughter, Janice Coltrane Freeman and her son-in-law Larry Freeman of Winston-Salem, as well as her son, Ronnie Coltrane and daughter-in-law Linda of Charlotte.
In addition to being the best mom ever, Mattie was an incredible Mamaw. She was so very proud of her granddaughters, Cory Wigg and Erin Coltrane Smith and her grandson-in-law Josh Smith. Her great grandson Harrison Smith was, however, her favorite. Her nieces Judy Moffitt and Margie Grantham were always close to her heart. Mattie's sister, Lillian Robbins was her lifelong best friend. Mattie was preceded in death by her parents, Lolar Pass Harris and Julia Ellen Gordon Harris, sisters, Marinda Barnes, Vaden Harris, and Lillian Robbins, and brothers, James Harris and Carl Brown Harris.
Mattie was a 46 year long loyal employee of Bossong Hosiery. She was a founding member of Fayetteville Street Baptist Church, where she taught children's Sunday School for years. Her cooking skills were legendary, not just for her immediate family, but also for extended family and friends. Her keen sense of humor was uplifting to us all.
Mattie's generosity and her selflessness were the heart of her personality. She did so much for so many family members and friends without seeking praise or attention. Her strength defied her small stature. She was our rock. And she always knew her rock was Jesus. Her legacy will be evident in the lives she touched.
In lieu of flowers, Mattie would have liked to send one last gift to the good people of Fayetteville Street Baptist Church to be used in their children's ministries.
A service of thanksgiving of Mattie's 92 years will be held at Pugh Funeral Home on Friday, September 18, 2015 at 2:00 pm with Dr. Larry Freeman officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm on Friday at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro.
