Mary Ruth Wood

Mary Ruth Poole Wood, age 89, of Troy died Thursday, September 15, 2016 at her home. Mary Ruth was born March 4, 1927 in Montgomery County, the daughter of Marshall Otis and Irene Woodley Poole. She was a member Trinity United Methodist Church of Troy where she served as church secretary for many years. She was a sweet, gentle, caring lady who had a heart of love for her family and friends. She enjoyed crocheting, reading and listening to classical piano music. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, E H Wood, Jr., a daughter, Janet Wood Deese and great-grandson, Antonio Simmons. She is survived her children: Suzanne Luther of Goldston, Barbara Hinson and husband David of Mt. Gilead, Pat Moody and husband Randall of Troy, Sonny Wood and wife Karen of Maxton, and Robert Wood of Troy; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; one sister: Cara Maness and husband Kent of Robbins and beloved friend Stella Poole of Troy. The family will receive friends Saturday, September 17, 2016 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Troy; other times at the home. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 pm at Trinity United Methodist Church, 239 N. Russell Street, Troy with the Reverend J. Scott Finicum officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery, Troy. The family would like to thank Hospice of Stanly County and special caregivers Ruth Horne and Robin Haithcock. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity United Methodist Church, 239 N.
