Mary Ward, age 75, of 1927 Greenwood Rd., Asheboro died Friday, April 11, 2008 at Clapps Nursing Home, Asheboro. Mrs. Ward was born January 10, 1933 in Asheboro, NC the daughter of William Otis and Irene Welborn Burns. Mrs. Ward was a dedicated employee of Central Telephone for 32 years and worked in customer service. Outside of work, Mary enjoyed many hobbies including needle work, making additions to her bear collection, watching baseball, basketball, and NASCAR races; particularly Jeff Gordon. She and her husband, Clifton, also enjoyed traveling to any place that sounded exciting. Mary most enjoyed being involved with her church and spending time with her family and all of her friends. She was preceded in death by twin sisters Nancy Lou Gee and Betty Sue Barker and by a brother, which died at birth. Mrs. Ward is survived by her husband: Clifton Gyles Ward; sister: Kathryn Nichols and husband Dale of Ramseur, NC and brother: Joe Burns and wife Irene of Asheboro, NC The family will receive friends Sunday, April 13, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. The funeral will be 2:00PM Monday, April 14, at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Fran Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro. Memorials may be made to Community Home Care & Hospice, 147 MacArthur St., Asheboro, NC 27203; or Calvary United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 4994, 1814 N. Fayetteville St., Asheboro, NC 27203.
