Mary Joan "Jo" Bowman Thorburn

Mary Joan "Jo" Bowman Thorburn, age 78, of Staley passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at her home. Mrs. Thorburn was born in Randolph County on February 2, 1943 to Binford and Betsy Ross Story Bowman. She was a 1961 graduate of Asheboro High School and a 1963 graduate of UNC. She was employed as a Nuclear Medicine Technician for 25 years. Jo was a member of Center City Church in Greensboro and enjoyed attending Community Bible Study at First Baptist Church in Asheboro. In addition to her parents, Jo was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Mary Hope Mathison. Jo loved her family, and her grandkids were the light of her life. She loved to paint and sew. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Bruce Thorburn; children, Paige Thorburn Jobe (Paul) of Pleasant Garden, Buddy Thorburn (Lisa) of Thomasville, Betsy Thorburn Evans of High Point, and Katie Thorburn Mathison (Ben) of Staley; 22 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. Mrs. Thorburn's urn and register will be available on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 from 1:00-5:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Darryl Bodie officiating. Memorials may be made to the Ralph Scott Group Home, 700 S.
