Mary Rollins Parks

Mary Rollins Parks, age 93, of 165 Saunders Road, Troy died Monday, May 28, 2012 at First Health Hospice and Palliative Care, Pinehurst. Mrs. Parks was born April 19, 1919 at Asheboro, NC, the daughter of Carl and Revella Strickland Rollins. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Troy. For many years she and her husband, Albert Lee Parks, owned and operated an antique shop along with a bookshop at their residence. . In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Albert Lee Parks, Jr. and James Michael Parks; two daughters, Teresa Parks Cooper and Candy Parks Kirk; one sister, Teresa Rollins Hook. Mary was a member of the War Mother's Society, Montgomery County Historical Society and Friends of The Library Club. She was also a member of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America which was included in the book titled Book Shops To Visit In N.C. She was listed in Who's Who Among American Business Women in the South and Southeast. She attended Elon College from 1937-1939 and was a lifetime member of the Bethany Sunday School Class. She is survived by two daughters: Rachel Parks White and husband, Wayne of Badin, Cindy Parks Whitley and husband, Jerry of Greensboro; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Thursday at 2 pm in the chapel of First Baptist Church, 401 E. Main Street, Troy with Dr. James B. Gibson officiating. The family will receive friends in the chapel one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery, Troy.
