Mary Elizabeth Stutts Fulghum, age 86, of 4366 Old NC Hwy 13, Asheboro died Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Cross Road Retirement Community in Asheboro.
The family will receive friends Friday, January 13, 2012 from 11:00 AM-12:00 noon at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC and other times at the home of Kenneth Fulghum, 2668 Mountain Oak View Dr., Asheboro. Funeral services will follow on Friday at 12:00 noon at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ronald Coleman officiating. Burial will be in the Star Cemetery.
Mrs. Fulghum was born in Star, NC on July 12, 1925 to James Calvin and Della Ida Williamson Stutts. She was retired from Burlington Mills. Mary grew up in the Star Methodist Church, was one of the founding members of Fayetteville Street Baptist Church, and was a member of Hunt Plank Road Chapel. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her brothers, William, Clyde, Charles, and J.C. Stutts and her sisters, Alma Brown and Marguerite Browne. Mary enjoyed playing the guitar.
She is survived by her sons, Kenneth C. Fulghum and his wife Betty of Asheboro, NC, Thomas Wood Fulghum, Jr of Little River, SC; grandson, Thomas Wood Fulghum, III; great grandson, Ethan Fulghum; niece, Beth Coleman of Asheboro, NC; nephew, Charles Browne of Asheboro, NC; and several other nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Cross Road Retirement Community for the excellent care given to Mary.
