Mary Ellen Branson Pike, age 84, of Asheboro died Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at her home.
Mrs. Pike was a native of Guilford County and a graduate of Guilford College. She retired from Randleman Elementary School after 30 years of teaching. Mrs. Pike was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, a retired teachers' sorority, and a volunteer at the NC Zoo for more than 20 years. She was a member of Asheboro Friends Meeting where she held various leadership positions as well as a board member at Quaker Lake. Mrs. Pike was preceded in death by her husband, Carter I. Pike.
She is survived by her son: David N. Pike and his wife Debbie of Asheboro; grandchildren: Nathan Pike and Michelle Butts of Asheboro; Emily Pike of Austin, TX; sister: Rebecca H. Hurley and her husband Rex of Asheboro; brother: Larry Hinshaw and his wife Doris of Asheboro; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday, November 3, 2012 from 6 to 8 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 4, 2012 at 2:30 pm at Asheboro Friends Meeting with Rev. Pat Thames, Rev. Ken Thames, Rev. David Hobson and Rev. Daniel Thames officiating. Burial will follow at Hopewell Friends Meeting Cemetery.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the exceptional care given to Mary Ellen by her caregivers: Sherry Simmons, Katrina Morris, Holly Allen, Kerry Vinson; her hospice nurse: Kim Monnenger and to Dr. Christine McCarty, Kelly Mosher, PA and all the staff at the Randolph Cancer Center.
