Mary Edythe Parks, age 94, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Cross Road Assisted Living. She was born on November 22, 1929 in Randolph County to Coble and Ola Maness. Mary Edythe was a graduate of Asheboro High School and Asheboro Commercial College. She worked at Acme McCrary Corporation for thirty-eight years, ending her career as an executive secretary.
As a member of First Wesleyan Church of Asheboro, she served as a pianist and organist for eighty years. As a ten-year old she became the pianist for First Wesleyan, but knew only three hymns. Each week she learned a new hymn until the congregation had a selection from which to choose. She continued in this capacity until the age of ninety. She also served as a Sunday School and Bible School teacher.
After her retirement, she continued to be very active and became more involved with work in her church, providing music for many funerals and weddings and assisting with providing meals for church members and families. At home, she always had a craft project that she was working to finish. She enjoyed spending time with her grandson and especially with her great grandchildren. She always looked forward to their visits. They were a great source of pride for her.
In addition to her parents, Mary Edythe was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-eight years, Leonard Parks; brother, Wesley Maness; and son-in-law, Pat Henry. She is survived by her daughter, Beckie Henry; grandson, David Henry and wife Angelica; great-grandchildren, Shai Henry, David (Eagle) Henry, Jozelyn Henry, and Jayla Henry.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 1, 2024 from 1PM-2PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. Funeral services will follow on Monday at 2PM at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Beane officiating. Interment will be held at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church at 1535 N. Moore Road, Robbins, NC 27325.
The family would like to thank Cross Road Assisted Living for the excellent care given to Mary Edythe for the last year and a half of her life. They would also like to express their appreciation to Gentiva Hospice for keeping her comfortable during her last few weeks.
