Martha Kearns Webb, 95, formerly of Asheboro, passed away in her home in Birmingham, Alabama, Friday, November 25, 2011.
She was born in Asheboro, North Carolina, February 3, 1916. She graduated from the Asheboro Schools and attended Guilford College. The daughter of Agnes Johnson Kearns and Lee Marshall Kearns, she was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Irene Kearns Brown, David Kearns, Lee Kearns, Jr., and Clarkson Johnson Kearns.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James E. "Jimmy" Webb and a grandson, Robert Glenn "Robbie" Rich. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, fondly known to many as "Mana" and "Memommy." She was a life-long member of First United Methodist Church of Asheboro and a member of several close-knit bridge clubs.
She is survived by her daughters; Judy Catherine Webb of Asheboro, North Carolina and Jean Webb Rich of Birmingham, Alabama; her sister, Catherine Kearns Rosser of Oxford, Mississippi; grandchildren, Penn Marshall Miller and his wife Tanya of Lake Hickory, Leslee Miller Basinger and her husband Jason of Lake Norman and James Russell "Rusty" Rich and his wife Liz of Birmingham, Alabama; and great-grandchildren Catherine Caroline-Elle "Bebe" Basinger, Sumner Banks Basinger, Sawyer Ben Basinger, and Annabelle Dixie Basinger, all of Lake Norman and Philip Andrew "Par" Rich and John Robert "Jack" Rich of Birmingham. She is also survived by several special cousins, nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was loved and cherished by so many and will be greatly missed.
A memorial graveside service is planned for 11:00 AM on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at the family plot in the Oaklawn Cemetery in Asheboro. Rev. Lynn Ogburn of Lake Norman and Dr. Bob Ralls of Greensboro will be conducting the service.
