Martha "Connie" Cornelia Whitaker

Martha Cornelia “Connie” Whitaker, age 73, of Sophia passed away Monday, November 30, 2020 at her home. Mrs. Whitaker was born February 28, 1947 and was the daughter of Rev. Howard and Ida Cox Ward. Connie was a native of Randolph County and retired from Deep River Automotive after 38 years of dedicated service. She was passionate about serving the community with her husband, Paul. She was a member of Poplar Ridge Friends Meeting, where she loved her Faithful Friends Sunday School class and playing the organ. Connie had a servant’s heart and it radiated through to her family; her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She enjoyed spending time in the mountains, traveling with close friends, bird watching, and scrapbooking. Connie had an excellent green thumb as evidenced by her flower beds. She also extended her love to others by sharing her home canning goods. She is survived by her husband of 54 years: Paul Whitaker of the home; children: Scott Whitaker of Wallburg; Sherry Nance (Brian) of Asheboro, and Shelly Barnes (David) of Kinston; grandchildren, Logan, Ethan, and Dawson Whitaker; Kesley, and Kaylen Nance; sister: Sandra Cook of Asheboro; brother: Howard Ward, Jr. (Dorothy) of Oklahoma City, OK. The family will receive friends Sunday, December 6, 2020 from 1:00 - 2:45 p.m. at Poplar Ridge Friends Meeting, 3673 Hoover Hill Rd., Trinity, NC. The memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Randy Quate and Chaplain Brian Donley officiating. Burial of the urn will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Rady Lady Foundation, Inc., 1484 Allen Court, Asheboro, NC 27205, a local public charity very fond to Connie that she supported and served for several years
