Mark Newell Smith

Mark Newell Smith, age 51, of Asheboro passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at Randolph Hospice House.

Mr. Smith was born in Asheboro, NC on November 19, 1966 to Jay and Doris Brown Smith. He was a 1985 graduate of Asheboro High School and was employed with Kennametal of Asheboro as a Group Leader. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Dwaine Wilkes. Mark was a loving husband, a kind man with a strong faith and loved his family. Mark always had a smile on his face and never met a stranger. He enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, and was an avid Carolina Panthers fan. He was married to the love of his life, Dawn Wilkes Smith for 26 years.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Hospice of Randolph, Lannette White, Kim Auman, Tara Goins, Tim Pheagin, and the staff of the Randolph Hospice House. A special thanks also to Kelby Stanley for his friendship, constant care and compassion. Mark will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife: Dawn Wilkes Smith; son: Dallas N. Smith of Asheboro; daughter: Bridgette Smith of Asheboro; parents: Jay and Doris Smith of Denton; brothers: Harris Smith and wife Tammy of Randleman, Rodney Smith and wife Donna of Asheboro, and Andrew Smith and wife Nita of Asheboro; mother-in-law: Delores Wilkes of Bladenboro; brother-in-law, Derrick Wilkes of Palmetto Bay, FL; grandfather-in-law: Elwood Bryan of Bladenboro; and 5 nephews and 2 nieces.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro and other times at his home. The funeral service will be held Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Balfour Baptist Church, 1644 North Fayetteville Street in Asheboro with Rev. Gary Mason and Rev. Bob Griffith officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Memorial Gardens.
