Rev. Mark Eugene Jordan, age 64, of Asheboro died Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Brookstone Retirement Home in Lexington.
Rev. Jordan was born May 25, 1950 in Asheboro to Ray and Lucille Jordan. He graduated from Asheboro High School in 1968. He then attended Southern Wesleyan University in South Carolina where he received a degree in Bible & Theology in 1972. He also earned a Master's Degree of Divinity from Hood Seminary in 2009.
He was the former pastor of Grace United Methodist, New Union United Methodist, Pleasant Union United Methodist, Piney Ridge United Methodist and Stout's Chapel United Methodist churches in the Asheboro area. He was also a Wesleyan minister in Mocksville, Charlotte, Winston-Salem, Candler, Lexington and Raleigh. Rev. Jordan was an EMT and volunteer firefighter having served as former chaplain of Westside Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting and golfing, was a huge Tarheel fan and sang gospel music. He was very involved in researching family history and he was always faithful in taking care of his extended family. He was fluent in Spanish and enjoyed communicating with others in Spanish. He was a very energetic person who loved serving others.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty Ann" Hedgepath Jordan; daughter, Deanna J. Danner and husband Troy of Asheboro; sons, Kevin M. Jordan and wife Renee of Asheboro, Aaron C. Jordan and wife Traci of Asheboro; grandchildren, Cody, Carson, Brayden, and Ladora Jordan, Natalie and Caroline Danner; brother, Rev. Steve Jordan and wife Patricia of Myrtle Beach, SC.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 25, 2015 from 1:30-2:45 PM at First United Methodist Church, 224 North Fayetteville Street, Asheboro. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 PM with Rev. Lynda Ferguson, Dr. Donald Haynes, Rev.George Roberson and Rev. Steve Jordan officiating.
