Marjorie Griffin Moser of Asheboro died Saturday, April 25, 2009.A memorial graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at the Old City Cemetery. Officiating will be The Reverend Michael Holder and The Reverend Susan Mitchell.Marjorie was born June 24, 1925 in Thomaston, Georgia. She was the youngest daughter of Oscar and Earle Griffin, the sixth of their seven children.Marjorie graduated from Columbus High School, Columbus, Georgia and married Daniel Wescott Moser of Asheboro in December 1951. Establishing their home in Asheboro, they shared nearly fifty years of marriage before Mr. Moser's death in December of 2001. Their life together was enriched by a steadfast circle of friends, three grandchildren who were the recipients of their constant, unconditional love and one daughter who dearly loved them.Marjorie was a member of First United Methodist Church. She shared her creative talent there for many years, nowhere more evident than in the beautiful needlepoint kneelers that cushion the altar rail. She served as a Girl Scout Leader, member of the Board of Directors of the Randolph Arts Guild, was an avid tennis player and talented gardener. Her beautiful flower arrangements brightened many homes and often the Asheboro Public Library.Above all other community involvement she was most devoted to her work as a docent at the North Carolina Zoological Park. She served as President of the Docent Association in 1990 and spent countless hours educating groups of school children from across North Carolina when they visited their Zoo. In 1991, she was honored for her dedication to the Zoo by the NC Zoo Park Council when they presented her with a resolution of appreciation. Marjorie's cheerful personality and most generous spirit blessed all who knew her. She was never without a smile and a kind word for others.She is survived by her daughter, Marjorie "Missy" Moser Rankin and her husband, Sam of Asheboro; grandchildren, Griffin Rankin Lamb of West Newton, MA, Henry Wescott Rankin of Greensboro, NC and Mary Carlisle Rankin of Nashville, TN; sister Edna Griffin Schelter of Richmond, VA; brother LTC (Ret) William Caldwell Griffin of Valdosta, GA.The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter and son-in-law.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund of First United Methodist Church, 224 North Fayetteville Street, Asheboro, NC 27203 or to the North Carolina Zoological Society, 4403 Zoo Parkway, Asheboro, NC 27205.Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro is assisting her family.
