Marie Bulla Lewallen

Marie Bulla Lewallen, 84, of Asheboro died Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Clapps Convalescent Nursing Home. Mrs. Lewallen was born August 29, 1927 in Randolph County, the daughter of the late Emery Bulla and the late Mattie Scurlock Bulla. She was preceded in death by her son, Dave Lewallen, Jr., brothers, Otis, Ralph, Kenneth and Lyndon "Bud" Bulla; sisters, Bessie McPherson, Sadie Dawson and Velma McGill. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, C. David Lewallen, daughter, April Lewallen Brown and husband Mike of Asheboro, NC, granddaughter, Tracy M. Brown of Charlotte, NC, grandson, Travis E. Brown and wife Kristy of Asheboro, NC and great-grandson, Carter Brown. Brothers, R. Frank Bulla and wife Van of Asheboro, NC and Don S. Bulla of Asheboro, NC. Sisters-in-law, Clara Bulla of Asheboro, NC, Rose Bulla of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Rebecca Irby of Charlotte, NC and several nieces and nephews. Marie was born the seventh child of Emery and Mattie Bulla in the Spero and Balfour community of North Asheboro. After getting married in 1948 she and her husband lived in the West Bend Community west of Asheboro. She was a member of West Bend United Methodist Church and was active on several committees at the church for over 60 years. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 4, 2011 at 3:00 PM at West Bend United Methodist Church, 1080 Albemarle Road, Asheboro, NC 27205 with Rev. Drew McIntyre and Rev. David Cox officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC on Saturday, September 3, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 PM, other times at the home at 907 Sherwood Avenue, Asheboro, NC.
