Marian Martin Craig, age 85, of 500 Mountain Top Dr., Asheboro died Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at the Randolph Hospice House.
A native of Cramerton, NC, Marian was valedictorian of her high school class, graduated from Appalachian Teachers College (now Appalachian State University) and taught math for several years. In 1949 she married Elbridge Reid Craig, Sr. and moved to Asheboro. Here she taught again as a substitute in junior high and high school.
An active member of First Presbyterian Church, she has served a member and chairperson of several committees. She served as chairperson for a Circle many times, served as a Sunday School teacher, taught Bible School and has helped with the Youth Groups on Sunday evening.
She was active in the community serving as a Cub Scout Den Mother, a Girl Scout Leader, an active member of the Randolph County Mental Health Association, and a member of the Reviewer's Book Club.
She was predeceased by her husband, Elbridge Reid Craig Sr., sister, Claire May, and brother Carroll Martin.
She is survived by daughter and her husband, Sally and Billy Moore of Cary, NC; son and his wife, Reid and Kay Craig of Farmer, NC; son and his wife, Bill And Ginger Craig of Asheboro, NC; grandson, Billy Moore of Cary, NC; grandson, Tim Moore of Nashville, TN; grandson, Chris Moore of Chapel Hill, NC; step-grandchildren, Frankie Curtis of Pleasant Garden, NC, Lisa McDowell of Pleasant Garden, NC and Charlotte "Tweetie" Davis of Greensboro, NC; step-great -grandchildren, Tabitha Curtis of Greensboro, NC, Brandon Curtis of Farmer, NC and Emmitt Edwards of Greensboro, NC; one great- great- grandchild, Addilyn Lewis, and one brother: Bill Martin of Hattiesburg, MS.
The memorial service will be Thursday, March 1, 2012 at 2:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church, 420 West Walker Ave., Asheboro with Rev. Connie Weaver and Rev. Brian Gawf officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service.
