Mrs. Adams was born in Iredell County on July 3rd, 1929 to James Abner and Octa Bruce Guy. After graduating from Scotts High School in 1948, she moved to Greensboro where she began working at Southern Bell as a switch-board operator in 1949; she retired 36 years later. She met and married Alvin Rudolph "Rudy" Adams on December 22, 1956 and they were married for 50 years. They moved to Asheboro in 1996 and attended First United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, brothers: John, Lawrence and James Guy and sister, Mary Sue Montgomery.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Camilla Adams White and husband, Lyndon of Asheboro, son, Alvin R. Adams, Jr. and wife, Katherine of Randleman. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Morgan White Robbins and husband, Tyler of Seagrove, Kenley Guy White of Charlotte, Alvin Gabriel Adams and wife, Emily of Franklinville, Elizabeth Adams James and husband, Eric of Reidsville. Elizabeth and Eric are the parents of her great-grandson, Everett James. She has one surviving sister, Elizabeth "Aliene" Soule of Thomasville.
Margaret loved plants and flowers, orchids were her passion; she raised them in her greenhouses in Greensboro and later in Asheboro. She was an excellent cook; homemade lasagna and blackberry preserves were two items all the family looked forward to her preparing. She also enjoyed quilting,caning rocking chairs and feeding the large variety of birds that visited her yard and vegetable garden. In March 2014, she was featured in an article entitled "Party on the Line" in Our State magazine regarding her early experiences and career as one of only four local information operators for the telephone company in all of Greensboro.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 26, 2017 from 11:30 am to 12:45 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. Funeral services will then take place at 1:00 pm in the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lynda Ferguson and Rev. Alanda Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park in Greensboro.
