Madge McDuffy Johnson

Madge McDuffy Johnson, age 84, of Asheboro, formerly of Emerald Isle died Friday, July 11, 2014 at her home. Mrs. Johnson was born on November 6, 1929 in Lenoir County to William Roosevelt and Ruby Eubanks McDuffy. While in Asheboro, she was a member of First Baptist Church. Before her recent move to Asheboro she was a member of Emerald Isle Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, JB McDuffy. Madge was a devoted mother, sister, and grandmother. She loved dancing, singing in the choir, and cooking for family and friends. She was a Life Master Bridge player and loved spending time playing bridge with friends. She is survived by her two sons, Duffy Johnson and his wife Donna of Asheboro, Derrick Johnson and his wife Keitha of Clayton, NC; 5 grandchildren, Elizabeth Johnson, Sarah Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Meagan Johnson and Morgan Johnson; sister Elneta Jones of Kinston, NC and brother Roger McDuffy and his wife Nadine of Hendersonville, NC; and numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro. A memorial service will be held at Spilman Memorial Baptist Church in Kinston at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014 with Rev. Freddy Braswell and Dr. Michael Cogdill. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family would request memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Asheboro, 133 North Church Street, Asheboro, NC 27203 or Emerald Isle Baptist Church, 304 Emerald Plantation Rd, Emerald Isle, NC 28594.
