Mrs. Mabel Elsie Barker Ferree of Climax, NC passed into life eternal on June 1, 2014 at Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro, NC.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Simpson Ferree, Jr., her brothers C.P and George Barker of Climax, NC and her nephew Tommy Barker of New Salem, NC. She is survived by her son Don Ferree (wife Elaine) of Climax, NC; her daughter Marsha Ferree (husband Mike Gering) of Hillsborough, NC; nephew Charles Barker (wife Joanne) of Climax, NC; step-grandchildren Jeremy Morris of Greensboro, NC; Kate Morris of Farmingdale, NY and many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
Born February 8, 1921 to Elsie and Claude Barker of Randolph County, NC, she attended Providence Friends Meeting and graduated from Providence High School. She worked as a secretary at the main office of Burlington Mills in Greensboro before, and for a while after, marrying James until she resigned to become a mother and homemaker. She was an active grade mother for Don and Marsha, baking countless cookies and cupcakes for school parties. She liked to travel with James and went to most of the Truck Trailer Manufacturers Assoc. conventions that he attended. The 12 summers that she and James spent in Westcliffe, CO at their ranch were especially enjoyed. After James's death, she spent her remaining years at Friends Homes Guilford in Greensboro.
The funeral will be held at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 South Main St., Randleman, NC at 2 pm on June 6th, followed by interment at the Providence Friends Meeting cemetery, 2054 Providence Church Rd, Pleasant Garden, NC. There will be an opportunity for fellowship following the grave side service in the Providence Friends Meeting Fellowship hall hosted by the ladies of the church.
