***Due to the weather, Mr. Small's services have been rescheduled to Sunday, January 24, 2016.***
Luther Jesse Small, age 83, of Level Cross went to be with his Heavenly Father surrounded by his children on Wednesday, January 20, 2016.
Dad loved life, farming and talking to people and never met a stranger. Dad drove a tanker for Gulf Oil until his retirement. A man who loved farming, first with his father and brother in the dairy business, then running his own beef and chicken farm with his wife of 57 years, Mary Small, who preceded him in death. LJ and Mary were very faithful to the church they attended and instrumental in building and establishing the Level Cross Community Center, ball field and Civitan Club. Dad served in the Korean Conflict as a Corporal. Dad loved his family, laughing and telling wonderful stories and he always knew a short cut to where he was going. We love you Dad and will miss you forever. LJ was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Vera Small, an older brother who died at birth, his wife Mary Sheppard Small and his grand daughter Chloe True Curtis.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Sabrina Spencer (Bobby) of Denton, Cleve Small (Shelly) of Randleman, Melissa Small of Randleman, Jodi Curtis (Gary) of Mocksville; grandchildren: Ben Spencer (Beth), Jessica Hammer (Christian), Hank Spencer (Paige), Luke Spencer, Jesse Small (Stephanie), Josiah Small (Nikki), Sam Curtis (Meghan), Ethan Curtis (Chrissy), Madeline Miconi, Grace Wiley (Stephen), and Isaac Miconi; great grandchildren: Spencer, Preston, Charlotte, Abram, Maisie, Hudson and Grayson; siblings: Earl Small (Lyde), Helen Hutchins (Bill), Paul Small (Jessie), and Hazel Lamb (John); and numerous nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends Sunday, January 24, 2016 from 1:00 - 1:45 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 South Main Street, Randleman, NC. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in the chapel with Rev. Bill Barnes and Ethan Curtis officiating.
