Lillie Tarlton

Mrs. Lillie "Pete" Tarlton, 84, of Asheboro, NC, beloved wife of Billy C. Tarlton, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2010 at Randolph Hospital. "Pete" was born in Anson County, NC to parents Roy Hinson Diggs and Effie Henry Diggs. She was one of 9 children. "Pete" married Billy C. Tarlton in Chesterfield, SC in 1947 and they have six children together. She had a great love for animals and was a long time volunteer at the NC Zoo. Pete could always find something to smile or laugh about and had a wonderful sense of humor. She worked several years in the textile industry while raising six children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers, Susan "Dunk" Chewning, Rosa Diggs, Lois "Shine" Johnson, Cecil, Sam, Dan and Charles Diggs; grandson, Brian Lee Tarlton and great grandson, Bryce David Hughes. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Billy C. Tarlton, daughters, Patty Herbert and her husband Fred of Kingstree, SC, Cheryl Hurley and her husband Rocky of Asheboro; sons, Ronald Tarlton and his wife Helen of Asheboro, Billy Ray Tarlton and his wife Janice of Asheboro, James Tarlton and his wife Diane of Thomasville, Kenneth Tarlton and his wife Carolyn of Randleman; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; brother, Max Diggs of Norwood. The family will receive friends Saturday, July 31, 2010 from 9:30 - 11:00am at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am in the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev´d. Canon R. Larry Emerson, Vicar officiating. Burial will be in Wadesboro, NC at Jowers Cemetery at 1:30 pm. The family will gather at the home of daughter, Cheryl Hurley, 903 Uwharrie St., Asheboro.
